Conference Tracker: How can I run Mock Transactions to ensure the payment processor is set up properly?

Introduction

When creating your Registration Form and adding payment settings, it's a good idea to test out your Checkout process to ensure that everything is working properly. The best way to do this would be to fill out the registration form and run a quick mock transaction with your payment settings. In this article, we have some tips on how to accomplish this task.

Step-By-Step

  • First, let's create a discount coupon that will set the purchase to a fixed price when completing the conference's online registration form. This will allow you to run through your registration but only charge a set payment. To do this:

    • On the left-hand Navigation Menu, click the  Advanced Options > Discount Coupons options.

    • Next click the blue Create button.

    • Enter a name and the code you want to use for this coupon code.
NOTE: Make sure you use an "easy-to-remember" code since we'll be entering it at the checkout screen. Or simply write it down so you'll have it.

    • In the next section, you'll be able to set the Coupon Type and Value . Let's change this to "Fixed Price" for type and set it at "$1.00" for the  Value . This means that when this coupon is entered, your total amount due will change to $1.00, no matter what the original charges were on the form.  It will show all the options selected on the last step of completing the online registration so you'll know the form is working however.

    • Ensure the rest of the settings are correct and when finished, click on the green Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

  • Now we can run through our mock transaction!

    • The first step is to grab the link for the registration. To find this link, go to the left-hand Navigation Menu and click on the Attendees > Online Registration section.

    • Near the top of the page, click on the gray Share button, then click on the tab labeled "Send the Link". You will be given a direct URL to the online registration form, so  copy this link!

    • If you try to visit this link in the same browser then you will be taken to your Administrator Dashboard (since you are probably still signed in). Due to the fact that you are already logged into your Conference Tracker account you must logout or to quickly bypass this without logging out, I would suggest using a Private or Incognito Browser window .
TIP: In Chrome, you can press Ctrl + Shift + N to open an Incognito window; while in Firefox you can press Ctrl + Shift + P for a private window.

    • Paste your Registration Link in the address bar of the private window and go to it . It should load the Online Registration Form.
NOTE: When filling out the form use an email you have not used in any of the current user accounts (attendee, operator, admin, etc.). If you don't have an available email, you can enter a fake email address just to complete the online registration but you will not see the emails sent out. As long as it's in the email format then you will be able to complete the online registration form.

    • Once you fill out your form and get to the checkout screen, next you'll enter your Discount Coupon Code to lower your total due to $1 before going to the payment processor.

    • Now choose the Credit/Debit Card Payment option to test out your payment processor (PayPal, Authorize.NET, or Stripe) settings!
