Accudemia: Import Failed to update User Identities: Updating a System User's IDs

Introduction

In this article, you'll learn how to update an existing user's Alternate ID (sometimes referred to as their Secondary ID).  This guide is helpful if they are not a Student or Instructor account, which typically get updated from existing automated imports that run daily/weekly.

Additionally, this can also be used if you are importing users and getting the "failed to update identities" error, which typically occurs when a user account, such as an Admin or Tutor, already exists in the system, but the Alternate ID or Secondary ID field in the existing record does not match the User ID being uploaded in the import file. The import process fails to reconcile the existing account with the incoming data.  All IDs must be unique across all the various IDs you can import (Primary User ID, Secondary/Alternate User ID, Other ID #1, Other ID #2, Other ID #3, and Other ID #4)

Step-by-Step

Check the users with duplicated IDs

1. Log in to your Accudemia account with your System Admin credentials.

2. In Accudemia's navigation menu, click on the Administration Advanced > Exports section.

3. Now look for the Users export in the dropdown and pull that export.

4. You'll need to use some other applications, like MS Excel, to find duplicates. Functions in MS Excel or other applications can be used to cross-reference to find the duplicates among all of the IDs (Primary User ID, Secondary/Alternate User ID, Other ID #1, Other ID #2, Other ID #3, and Other ID #4).
Info
Note: The export should not have any duplicate IDs among all of the ID fields exported, so you need to compare this export to your import files of students, tutors, etc.

How to Fix this Issue for Imports

2. In Accudemia's navigation menu, click on the Administration User Management > Users section.

4. Click on their name (to edit them), then on the Security tab, check to check the Alternate ID or Secondary ID field is set to a proper ID for the user:

5. Now click the Save Changes button to complete this process.  Repeat for each user getting this error (if known).
