Accudemia: How do I update ADX?

INTRODUCTION

Accudemia Data Exchange (ADX) is the tool we use to run import jobs in Accudemia, sometimes it is necessary to update such a tool. The update process consists of several mandatory steps and one optional (step as needed):

  1. Back up in a local folder the current ADX configuration file (Application.FDB).
  2. Uninstall your current ADX Application
  3. Download the new ADX installer from the web and install it
  4. Restore the file backed up on Step 1
  5. Open and Test the Import/Export Jobs in the Application
  6. Optionally Remove all the Task Scheduled previously and create them again
(this is only necessary on major updates that change the install directory and you would be notified before this happens)
Still, having trouble?
  1. Check if Microsoft .Net 4.8 runtime framework is installed.

STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

Step 1: Back up in a local folder the current ADX configuration file (Application.FDB)

To back up your import job configurations and login credentials stored in your current ADX installation you'll need to do the following:

  1. On the machine where you have ADX currently installed and configured press the "Windows" key + R key on the computer to open the Run dialog box.

  2. Type: C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Apps/2.0/Data

    1. Note:When using the link above the %username% part of the folder location will be automatically replaced with the Windows User Account you're logged into on the PC currently.  You can change this link as needed to the user who had the jobs stored on their login.
  3. You'll notice inside this folder there will be several uniquely numbered folders per ADX installation. Search for and find a file labeled APPLICATION.FDB inside of one of these sub-folders.

  4. Now select the file, right-click it, and select Copy. (If you find more than one of these files choose the one with the latest date)

  5. Finally, right-click the location you want to back up the configuration file and select Paste to backup this APPLICATION.FDB file in a safe location where you want it saved (a network share or another server).

Step 2: Uninstall your current ADX Application

Before installing the updated version, you must uninstall all earlier versions from your computer following these steps:

  1. From the Windows Start menu look for "Add or Remove Programs" and select it in the search results.

  2. From the "Add or Remove Programs" screen search for "Accudemia Data Exchange", click the ellipses (3 dots), and select uninstall:

  3. It should uninstall and not be shown in the list of available apps.

  4. Keep doing this for all earlier versions.

Step 3: Download the new ADX installer from the web and install it

  1. First, download (http://install.accudemia.net/Files/?f=AccudemiaDataX_x86/setup.exe) and install ADX on the computer with ADX previously installed.
  1. Next, run the installer following all the prompts such as checking for the most updated version online, etc.
  2. Finally, finish the ADX installation process and move on to the next step.

Step 4: Restore the file backed up on Step 1

Now to move the configurations to another machine, you need to put that file in another ADX installation. To do so, do the following:

  1. Access and find the APPLICATION.FDB file from the saved safe location from Step 1.

  2. Now right-click and choose to copy the backed-up APPLICATION.FDB file.

  3. Press the "Windows" key + R key on the computer to open the run dialog box.

  4. Type:  C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/Apps/2.0/Data

    1. Note: When using the link above the %username% part of the folder location will be automatically replaced with the Windows User Account you're logged into on the PC currently.  You can change this link as needed to the user who had the jobs stored on their login.
  5. You'll notice inside this folder there will be several uniquely numbered folders per ADX installation. Search for and find a file labeled APPLICATION.FDB inside of one of these sub-folders.

  6. Finally, right-click on the folder location and paste the APPLICATION.FDB file you have backed up to replace the APPLICATION.FDB file you just found on this new PC.

Step 5: Open and Test the Import/Export Jobs in the Application

  1. Double-click the desktop shortcut to open ADX.

  2. Log into ADX if prompted and verify all the import jobs are listed on the left column.

  3. Done!  You have completed this process.

Step 6: Optionally Remove all the Task Scheduled previously and create them again

Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the tasks we had scheduled in Windows Task Scheduler and redo them using the updated ADX version.  This is because Windows may not associate the new ADX application with the import or export jobs of the old application. Go to Windows Task Scheduler directly and remove the scheduled tasks (take screenshots from the configuration of those Tasks as needed), open the new ADX version, and click the "Enable" option on the import jobs to create the tasks again in Task Scheduler.

Still, having trouble?
  1. Check if Microsoft .Net 4.8 runtime framework is installed.
To learn more on how to create those scheduled tasks please review the documentation: http://www.attendance-tracking.com/docs/doku.php/accudemia/7/administrator/manual/administration/advanced/import
